Saliva as a wound healing agent

Something which we think is simple sometimes have a lot of beneficial properties. Dutch researchers have identified a substance in human saliva that speeds wound healing, according to their report published Wednesday in The Journal of the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB).
The research team found that " histatin, a small protein in saliva previously only believed to kill the bacteria responsible for wound healing." The study may offer hope to people suffering from chronic wounds related to diabetes and other disorders, and traumatic wounds and burns. In addition, because these substances can be produced in bulk, these substances have the potential to become as common as antibiotic creams and rubbing alcohol. " We hope our findings ultimately beneficial for people suffering from wounds that never heal, such as foot ulcers and wounds caused by diabetes, as well as for treatment of wounds caused trauma such as burns," said Menno Oudhoff, first author of the report, as quoted by Xinhua . " This study not only answer the biological question of why animals lick their wounds," said Gerald Weissmann, Editor in Chief FASEB Journal. "That also explains why wounds in the mouth, like a wound after tooth extraction, heal much faster than the wounds on the skin and bones. It also directs us to begin looking at saliva as a source for new drugs." That made sense, with this information we obtain wound healing formula which is very cheap. * With saliva only we could heal chronic wounds that even though, stay the investigators waited for the results of these developments.
